Sonnet For a Friend

15Jan07

we had to write a sonnet for a shakespeare class that i’m taking. i really hate writing with a formula, but this is what happened.
it’s about this friend. our entire friendship’s been based on exploring… everything. sex, drugs, rock n roll, the whole sha-bang.

You show me quite vividly what it is to live.
You open my eyes, but shut a part of my heart.
Without such feelings, I am free to further dive
And immerse myself wholly into this new part.

We’ll disappear and never know where we’ll turn out;
We forage new ways into my heart and your soul.
Round and round we go, same old silly fight about
How we can love then hate, without paying a toll.

We’re as hot and cold as arctic ice and fire:
Your scalding temper and my icy heart’s a team.
We could freeze and scorch the world if we so desire,
Potential in this pair is bursting at the seam.

But lest we forget the High Priestess and her Page,
The two of us express more kinship than outrage.
